Tips, records, corrections and questions all reach a person.

Sending a tip

The most useful tips point to a record: a contract, an invoice, a meeting agenda, a filing, a public-records response. Tell us what it is, where it came from and why it matters. We check every tip against the records before anything is published, and a tip alone is never the basis for a claim.

How we treat sources

  • We will not publish your name, or details that identify you, without your permission.
  • If you ask for confidentiality, tell us in your first message, and we will agree with you on what that covers before we go further.
  • We publish the records themselves, not people’s private messages to us.

Sending sensitive material

Regular email is not encrypted end to end. If what you have is sensitive, or if you could face consequences for sharing it, do not send it from a work device, work account or work network. Send a short first message from a personal account, without the material, and we will arrange a safer way to receive it.

Reporting an error

Write to corrections@signaldata.org with the page, the figure, and the record that shows the correct value. Corrections are dated and listed in our corrections log.
