Privacy Policy

Effective October 17, 2026. SignalData has no accounts, no sign-ups, no ads and no advertising trackers. This page explains the little that does happen when you visit.

In short

  • We do not ask for your name, email or any other personal information to use the site.
  • We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
  • We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not follow you to other sites.
  • If you email us, we keep your message to answer it and to do our reporting.

When you visit

Hosting. The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives technical information when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. Cloudflare uses this to deliver the site and protect it from attacks, and it may set a strictly necessary security cookie for that purpose. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Visit counts. To see which pages people read, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. Cloudflare adds a small script to each page that reports the page visited, the referring site, and general information such as browser type, country and how quickly the page loaded. It does not set cookies, does not use your IP address to identify you, and does not track you across other websites. We see only totals. See Cloudflare Web Analytics.

Fonts. Pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address and browser information. See Google’s privacy policy.

We do not combine this technical information with anything else to identify you.

Settings saved in your browser

The site remembers two choices in your own browser’s local storage, so it does not have to ask again:

  • Light or Dark display (sd-theme);
  • the state you picked under “Find your races” (sd-state).

These stay on your device and are never sent to us. You can clear them at any time through your browser’s settings for this site.

If you write to us

If you email info@signaldata.org, tips@signaldata.org or corrections@signaldata.org, we receive your address and whatever you include. Our email is hosted by Microsoft 365. We use your message to reply, to check and correct our work, and to report. We do not add you to a mailing list. How we handle tips and sources is set out on our Contact page.

People named in public records

SignalData publishes information from public records, such as candidates, public officials, campaign contributors and government vendors, as those records show it. If you believe a record about you is shown incorrectly, write to corrections@signaldata.org and we will review it against the original record.

Links to government sources and other publishers open those sites, which have their own privacy practices.

Children

The site is meant for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

The site is served only over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so please do not send highly sensitive information by regular email; see sending sensitive material.

Changes

If our practices change, for example if we add a newsletter or another outside service, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect.
