Florida voters had returned 833,849 vote-by-mail ballots for the Nov. 3, 2026 general election, according to statewide totals the Florida Division of Elections compiled from county reports at 2:01 p.m. on Oct. 19. The Division says the totals are cumulative through the previous day’s activity.1
By party, the report counts 354,148 returned mail ballots from Democrats, 303,299 from Republicans, 155,962 from voters with no party affiliation and 20,440 from voters in other parties.1
The same report tracks a separate measure: mail ballots sent to voters and not yet returned. That count stood at 1,529,811 in the same compilation, including 654,298 for Democrats, 510,140 for Republicans, 326,308 for voters with no party affiliation and 39,065 for other parties.1 Those are ballots outstanding, not votes cast.
The early-voting line in the statewide totals showed zero as of the Oct. 19 compilation.1 Under the Division’s reporting schedule, county early-voting reports start the day after a county’s early voting begins, and each daily report reflects the prior day.2
The News Service of Florida reported on Oct. 13 that more than half a million ballots had been cast for the general election, citing Division of Elections figures reported that morning.3
The voting calendar
State law and the Division set these dates for the general election:4567
- Mail ballot requests: a request to have a ballot mailed must be in by 5 p.m. local time on the 12th day before the election, which is Thursday, Oct. 22.
- Mandatory early voting: the 10th through the 3rd day before the election, Saturday, Oct. 24, through Saturday, Oct. 31, for at least eight and no more than 12 hours a day at each site.
- Optional early voting: county supervisors may add the 15th through 11th days before the election (Oct. 19 to 23) and the 2nd day (Sunday, Nov. 1).
- Mail ballot return: to be counted, a mail ballot must be received by the county supervisor of elections by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3. The statute makes an exception for certain overseas ballots.
Voters may cast an early ballot at any designated early voting site in the county where they are registered.8
Counties offering earlier days
Early voting location filings that counties submitted to the Division, posted in a file dated Oct. 2, list voting starting Monday, Oct. 19, and running through Sunday, Nov. 1, at every listed site in Miami-Dade (28 sites), Broward (30), Palm Beach (28), Hillsborough (27), Orange (27), Sarasota (11) and Pinellas (7).9 Hours differ by county. Holmes County’s filing lists hours for its single site only on the eight required days.9
What the records do not show
- The statewide totals do not say how many returned mail ballots have been accepted, rejected or set aside for signature problems.
- They do not yet include any early votes cast on Oct. 19 or later.
- They do not give a turnout rate, because the report does not list the number of registered voters.
- The Division’s individual vote-by-mail request reports are available only to people and groups the law authorizes, not to the public.2
- The county location filings reflect what was posted Oct. 2; they do not show any changes counties made after that.
