Elections 2026 · South Dakota · donor map

Where South Dakota’s federal campaign money comes from.

$3.0 million in itemized gifts from individuals to South Dakota’s 4 U.S. Senate and House nominees, Jan. 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2026. $1.4 million of it (49%) came from South Dakota addresses: 1,941 gifts, each placed in the donor’s county.

By county

Party share of donor dollars to South Dakota’s nominees, total dollars, dollars per resident, and the party share of everything South Dakota residents gave to any 2026 U.S. Senate or House nominee, in any state.

Each gift is placed in the county of the donor’s ZIP code. Party share counts only the two parties’ nominees.

FEC bulk file of itemized individual contributions (indiv26), file dated Oct. 25, 2026; ActBlue and WinRed earmark lines from the same file. ZIP codes placed by Census 2020 ZIP code areas. Residents: Census estimates for July 1, 2024.

Every nominee is listed, including those with $0 on file. The first column is net of refunds; the share from South Dakota is of that figure, and the gift-size and ActBlue/WinRed shares are of gifts before refunds.

South Dakota residents also gave $694,858 to 2026 Senate and House nominees in other states in the same period: $199,424 to Democrats, $493,614 to Republicans, $1,820 to others.

How these maps are made, and what they do not show

  • Counted: each nominee’s own itemized receipts from individuals (refunds taken off), and gifts earmarked for the nominee through ActBlue or WinRed. When a gift appears in both the conduit’s report and the campaign’s, it is counted once, from the campaign’s report; ActBlue and WinRed lines fill in the months after a campaign’s latest report in the file.
  • The window is Jan. 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2026 for every campaign, so campaigns and ActBlue and WinRed, which report monthly, cover the same period. Totals on race pages run later and include money from other sources; the two are different measures.
  • Not counted: gifts of $200 or less sent straight to a campaign (campaigns report them only as one total, with no address), small ActBlue and WinRed gifts from donors who gave $200 or less in the year (the FEC’s bulk file leaves them out), money from PACs and parties, joint-fundraising transfers, and candidates’ own money. Campaigns that raise mostly small online gifts are undercounted most.
  • A ZIP code is placed in the county that holds most of its land. Gifts with a ZIP code that has no Census area count toward the state but not a county.
  • Where donors live is not how anyone will vote, and money from a county does not show that its voters back a candidate. No donor is named here.
