The record, newest first

  1. Enterprise Minnesota described the Rosemount campus as under construction, the only proposed Minnesota data center it reported as being built. (Enterprise Minnesota, Feb. 26, 2026)

  2. DCD reported Mortenson as lead contractor, noted the site was once a World War II gunpowder plant, and said Meta had filed a development plan with the Minnesota PUC. (DatacenterDynamics, March 16, 2024)

  3. Gov. Walz and the state economic development agency announced the $800 million Meta data center in Rosemount. (Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, March 14, 2024)

  4. MPR reported the campus would be about 715,000 sq ft, open in 2026 and run only on renewable power, and that Meta would work with Xcel Energy on upgrades and new transmission lines in the UMore area. (MPR News, March 14, 2024)

  5. The Rosemount City Council unanimously approved the Meta campus and rezoned the 280-acre site from agricultural to business park planned development; DCD reported the plans show two data halls, a support building, a guard house and two communication towers. (KSTP, Dec. 21, 2023; DatacenterDynamics, Dec. 22, 2023)

Conflicts and open questions

  • Meta bought the land from the University of Minnesota in Sept. 2023 for about $39.7 million (KSTP, DCD).
  • Jobs: DCD (March 2024) cited the governor's office at about 100 operating jobs and at least 1,000 construction jobs; DCD's Dec. 2023 story cited 50 full-time jobs. The state release says only 'hundreds of jobs'.
  • Size: 715,000 sq ft (MPR, DCD 2024, Enterprise Minnesota) or 750,000 sq ft (DCD Dec. 2023).
  • A July 2026 Forum News Service report that the campus was nearly finished could not be opened (the Forum sites block access) and only an aggregator summary was found, so it is not cited. Recheck for an opening date.
  • Meta's own location page was not found; once Meta lists Rosemount as operating, update status.
  • Coordinates approximate, placed in UMore Park south of County Road 42.
