Stream Data Centers Chaska campus (Minneapolis I and II)
Stream Data Centers built two data centers in Chaska's West Creek Corporate Center: Minneapolis I, now owned by LightEdge, and Minneapolis II, built for U.S. Bank. A four-building expansion to the north won conditional approval in 2017 but no record shows it was built. Also known as: Stream Minneapolis I (1708 West Creek Lane, now LightEdge), Stream Minneapolis II (1706 West Creek Lane, U.S. Bank).
Who is behind it
LightEdge
The record, newest first
JLL listed 1706 West Creek Lane for sale as a fully leased data center built in 2017, with 2.4 MW of critical capacity and room for two more 1.2 MW halls. (JLL, Oct. 21, 2024)
LightEdge announced it had bought a 76,000 sq ft, 3.6 MW data center in Chaska; DCD identified it as Stream's Minneapolis I at 1708 West Creek Lane. (LightEdge, Jan. 17, 2024; DatacenterDynamics, Jan. 17, 2024)
The council voted 4-1 to conditionally approve up to four more Stream data centers north of West Creek Corporate Center, starting with a 130,000 sq ft building, on condition that Stream respond to neighbors' concerns about lighting and berms. (Chaska Herald (SWNewsMedia), Aug. 24, 2017; DatacenterDynamics, Aug. 25, 2017)
DCD and Minnesota Lawyer reported that the second building, next to Stream's first at 1708 West Creek Lane, would be leased to U.S. Bank, at a cost of $250 million, with state and city incentives. (DatacenterDynamics, Dec. 21, 2016; Minnesota Lawyer, Dec. 21, 2016)
DCD reported that the council had approved the final site plan for a second Stream building of 52,000 sq ft on a 5.45-acre lot. (DatacenterDynamics, Nov. 25, 2016)
Stream said its 75,675 sq ft Chaska building, designed for 7.2 MW of IT load in three halls, had signed an anchor tenant for its third hall (1 MW). (Stream Data Centers, June 16, 2016)
The Chaska City Council approved final site and building plans for Stream's first phase, and preliminary plans for a second phase of about 80,000 sq ft. (City of Chaska, Jan. 31, 2013)
The city bulletin said Stream had proposed a 115,000 sq ft building west of the UnitedHealth Group data center in West Creek Corporate Center, which would be the city's third data center. (City of Chaska, Jan. 17, 2013)
Conflicts and open questions
- Building identity is now sourced: DCD (Jan. 2024) places Minneapolis I at 1708 West Creek Lane and the U.S. Bank building, Minneapolis II, at 1706 West Creek Lane; Minnesota Lawyer (2016) also gives 1708 W. Creek Lane for Stream's first building.
- LightEdge's release does not name the seller or address; DCD ties the sale to 1708 West Creek Lane. PeeringDB (updated Sept. 2025) still lists the facility under Stream.
- The JLL listing for 1706 West Creek Lane names no owner or tenant; that U.S. Bank still leases it is not confirmed.
- Minneapolis I size: 75,675 sq ft (Stream 2016), about 76,000 sq ft (LightEdge, DCD 2024), or 115,000 sq ft (city bulletin 2013, Carver County Local News 2024). Minneapolis II: 52,000 sq ft (DCD 2016), 56,000 sq ft (Minnesota Lawyer 2016, DCD 2024), 52,350 sq ft (Carver County Local News 2024).
- Power: Minneapolis I designed for 7.2 MW of IT load, 3.6 MW per LightEdge (2024); Minneapolis II 4.8 MW (DCD 2024) or 2.4 MW critical existing plus room for 2.4 MW more (JLL). The Star Tribune (2022) put the two buildings at 12 MW combined. No campus total is set.
- No record was found showing that the four-building expansion approved in 2017 was built.
- Other data centers in the same park (UnitedHealth Group, Flexential) belong to other operators and are not part of this record.
