Updates, newest first

  1. Aug. 30, 2026 The Sierra Club's Finger Lakes group urged residents to ask the Town of Torrey for a moratorium; it put the plant's current grid supply at 106 MW and its new request at 260 MW. (Sierra Club Finger Lakes Group, Aug. 30, 2026)
  2. July 30, 2026 WRVO reported the company had renamed itself Vulcan and raised nearly $40 million; DEC said it had no new applications tied to the change of use; the Seneca County board asked the governor to deny renewal of the plant's air permits. (WRVO / New York Public News Network, July 30, 2026)
  3. Dec. 20, 2024 Greenidge filed a 200 MW data center load request at NYSEG's Greenidge substation. (New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), Sept. 30, 2026)

Conflicts and open questions

  • NYISO lists the site in Yates County; a WRVO caption placed it in Seneca County, across the lake.
  • Whether the governor's permit pause covers this site was unresolved; DEC declined to say.
