eBay Topaz data center
eBay's company-owned data center campus in South Jordan, which opened in 2010 and later added a building powered by Bloom fuel cells. Also known as: eBay SLC03, Project Topaz.
Who is behind it
The record, newest first
The architecture firm Corgan, on an undated project page, describes fitting out a 42,600 sq ft, 10.4 MW data hall in eBay's 146,700 sq ft SLC03 building in South Jordan and says the campus also has eBay-owned buildings SLC01 and SLC02. (Corgan, Oct. 2026)
The Gardner Institute data summary listed the eBay data center in South Jordan among operating data centers at 24 MW. (Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, University of Utah, April 2026)
eBay switched on a new South Jordan data center that uses 30 natural-gas Bloom fuel cells as its primary power, with the grid as backup. (Data Center Knowledge, Sept. 26, 2013)
Data Center Knowledge reported that eBay's $287 million Topaz data center in South Jordan came online May 4, 2010; phase 1 was a 240,000 sq ft building with three 20,000 sq ft data halls, 7.2 MW and a 30 MW on-site substation, in a four-phase master plan. (Data Center Knowledge, May 23, 2010)
Conflicts and open questions
- Coordinates set at the eBay site in South Jordan's Daybreak area mapped in OpenStreetMap; the Census geocoder confirms the point is in South Jordan city, Salt Lake County. Street address not confirmed.
- Corgan's page indicates at least three eBay buildings (SLC01-SLC03) on the campus; which one is the 2010 Topaz building is not stated.
The full record
- Power note
- The Gardner Institute summary lists 24 MW. At its 2010 opening phase 1 had 7.2 MW and a 30 MW on-site substation. Corgan lists a 10.4 MW critical load for a data hall fit-up in eBay's SLC03 building. The Gardner figure comes from a third-party compilation (the institute cites company websites, permits, news and commercial listings), not a filing, so mw_basis is 'estimate'.
