Meta Eagle Mountain Data Center
Meta's hyperscale campus in Eagle Mountain has operated since 2021, covers about 2.4 million sq ft, and is expanding onto about 567 acres directly to the south under a city tax-increment area. Also known as: Facebook Eagle Mountain Data Center, Sweetwater Industrial Park CRA #4 expansion.
Who is behind it
The record, newest first
Meta announced another expansion, saying the campus will exceed 5 million sq ft at full buildout, along with more than $1 million in education gifts including $600,000 toward a school site. Gov. Cox cited a 150 MW battery storage project tied to the announcement. (KSL.com, Sept. 14, 2026; Utah Business, Sept. 14, 2026; KUTV, Sept. 14, 2026)
A Gardner Institute data summary listed Buildings 1-5 as operating and Buildings 6-7 as under construction, at 40 MW each. (Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, University of Utah (via le.utah.gov), April 2026)
The Eagle Mountain RDA unanimously approved a tax-increment interlocal agreement with Alpine School District for CRA #4, lowering the caps. (Eagle Mountain Redevelopment Agency, Nov. 18, 2025)
The Unified Fire Service Area board voted 5-3 to share tax increment with the RDA for CRA #4. The minutes say Williams will build and own a gas-fired generation plant on land Meta provides, outside the CRA. (Unified Fire Service Area Board, Nov. 18, 2025)
The city council agenda carried an ordinance adopting the Sweetwater #4 CRA plan. Staff described about 567 acres directly south of the current Meta campus and several billion dollars of investment. (Eagle Mountain City Council, Nov. 5, 2025)
The Eagle Mountain RDA board voted 3-1 to designate a survey area and begin a draft plan for Sweetwater Industrial Park CRA #4, which staff said was for an expansion of the Meta campus. (Eagle Mountain Redevelopment Agency, Sept. 2, 2025; Eagle Mountain Redevelopment Agency, Sept. 16, 2025)
Meta announced a two-building expansion of about 2 million sq ft, raising its Eagle Mountain investment to $1.5 billion. The $750 million campus was first announced in 2018 and began operating in July 2021. (Data Center Dynamics, Oct. 3, 2022)
pv magazine USA reported that Facebook would buy power from a 120 MW rPlus solar project through Rocky Mountain Power's Schedule 34 tariff to serve the Eagle Mountain data center, which was growing from 500,000 to 900,000 sq ft. (pv magazine USA, June 30, 2021)
Conflicts and open questions
- Merged meta-eagle-mountain-south into this record: city RDA, council and UFSA records all describe the 567-acre CRA #4 area as an expansion of the existing Meta campus, located directly south of it, with the same owner.
- sqft is the existing ~2.4 million sq ft (KSL). KUTV reports more than 5 million sq ft at full buildout. DCD's 2018-2022 expansion figures add up to more, so treat totals with care.
- The Sept. 2, 2025 RDA minutes say the Meta campus is 'currently within the Sweetwater #4 project area', but the agenda for the same meeting says #1. The minutes are probably the error.
- Utah Business says the 150 MW / 733 MWh Lydian Energy 'Faraday' battery has a PacifiCorp power purchase agreement. The battery is a separate project.
- Who serves the Williams gas plant, and whether it is grid-connected or behind-the-meter, is not stated.
- Coordinates are approximate, set in the Meta campus area of Eagle Mountain (Utah County). No parcel has been geocoded.
- iso_rto Non-ISO and balancing_authority PACE apply, since pv magazine confirms Rocky Mountain Power service (Schedule 34).
The full record
- Status note
- Operating since 2021. Gardner Institute listed Buildings 6 and 7 as under construction in April 2026, and Meta announced a further expansion in Sept. 2026. In late 2025 Eagle Mountain set up a 567-acre tax-increment area (CRA #4) directly south of the campus for the expansion.
- Power note
- No MW figure appears in a filing or a Meta statement. The Gardner Institute summary (Apr. 2026) lists Buildings 1-5 as operating at 40 MW each and Buildings 6-7 as under construction at 40 MW each. UFSA minutes (Nov. 2025) mention about 300 MW of on-site generation for the expansion, to be built and owned by Williams on land Meta provides.
