Who is behind it
The record, newest first
Entergy Arkansas announced a Google-funded second phase: about $600 million in battery storage and related system upgrades, a 440 MW solar purchase from the Big Island plant, and substation and transmission work, to be filed with the PSC with a 2028 in-service target. Google, the governor and local officials announced the campus at the site, with $4 billion of spending through 2027 and the Cypress Solar project near Pine Bluff tied to the power deal. Conflicts and open questions
- Acreage differs: more than 1,000 (AEDC), 1,000 (Talk Business), 1,100 (Arkansas Advocate, POWER, Axios), 1,178 (DCD).
- Talk Business (Sept. 2025) called it a potential $1 billion investment before the $4 billion figure was announced.
- DCD reported the PSC turned down a separate Entergy request for a power purchase agreement with the Big Island solar plant in early September 2026; the second-phase filing was still to come.
- Entergy's quarterly SEC filing names the contract counterparty as Altitude LLC, an Alphabet subsidiary. The PSC contract docket and order could not be opened, so the MW figure stays on reporting.
- DCD counts five planned buildings; one project per campus.
