Updates, newest first

  1. Jan. 28, 2026 The Beacon reported the project still had no final agreement with BPU or the Unified Government and that the lawsuit remained pending. (KCUR (The Beacon), Jan. 29, 2026)
  2. Oct. 29, 2025 A district judge in Wyandotte County refused the Unified Government's request to dismiss residents' claims over the south tract and said north-tract claims could proceed once commissioners make a final decision. (High Plains Public Radio (Kansas Reflector), Nov. 10, 2025)
  3. July 31, 2025 After protest petitions, the north-side rezoning failed to reach the required supermajority on a 7-3 vote; the south side no longer needed one after eight petition signers withdrew. (High Plains Public Radio (Kansas Reflector), Nov. 10, 2025)
  4. May 28, 2025 On a 4-2 vote, planning commissioners recommended the rezoning, plat and master plan changes; the Journal-World reported the developer would pay for two BPU substations to handle 600 MW, more than BPU's roughly 500 MW system. (Lawrence Journal-World, May 29, 2025)
  5. May 27, 2025 The New York-based developer asked the Unified Government planning commission to rezone land northwest of the Kansas Speedway for six buildings. (KSAL, May 27, 2025)

Conflicts and open questions

  • KSAL's May 2025 preview said the request was to rezone 24 acres; later reporting describes a site of about 548 to 550 acres.
  • The lawsuit's allegations about the petition and recusal process are claims by the plaintiffs, not findings.
  • No 2026 court ruling or Unified Government vote was found in the sources reviewed.
