Updates, newest first
- Oct. 16, 2026 The Kentucky Center for Economic Policy estimated the local and state tax breaks; KEDFA was due to consider the sales tax exemption later in October. (Kentucky Lantern (via News From The States), Oct. 16, 2026)
- Oct. 13, 2026 At a regular meeting, the Fiscal Court took up a development and community revenue agreement with Meta subsidiary Chrisham LLC, and the judge-executive named Meta publicly. WVXU reported a vote to approve; the Lantern called the agreement tentative and reported no vote. (Kentucky Lantern (via News From The States), Oct. 14, 2026; WVXU, Oct. 15, 2026)
- Aug. 4, 2026 WVXU reported that a mobile home park on the site was being sold and residents were being moved, with relocation timing tied to the zoning lawsuit. (WVXU, Aug. 4, 2026)
- May 22, 2026 The county gave final approval to the rezoning; the group We Are Mason County, KY had sued about two months earlier, arguing the comprehensive plan does not address data centers. (WEKU, May 26, 2026)
- April 1, 2026 Mason County's joint planning commission sent the 28-property rezoning to the Fiscal Court with a favorable recommendation, 4-1-1, days after a residents' group sued. (WCPO, April 1, 2026)
Conflicts and open questions
- Whether the Fiscal Court approved the agreement on Oct. 13 is unresolved between the sources reviewed: WVXU reported approval, while the Lantern's Oct. 14 and Oct. 16 stories describe a tentative agreement without reporting a vote.
- WVXU quoted the county's attorney as describing a 40-year, $800 billion industrial revenue bond; this is likely a misstatement or typo (Meta's spending was put at about $10 billion per phase), was not found in another source, and is not used here.
- Chrisham LLC is named as the Meta subsidiary by WVXU; the Lantern names Meta but not the subsidiary.
