The record, newest first
After the county regional planning commission tabled proposed data center conditions on Oct. 14, trustees unanimously extended the data center moratorium by six months; it had been set to expire Nov. 3. (The Portager, Oct. 23, 2026)
Trustees amended zoning definitions so that uses drawing 25 MW or more must sit in heavy industrial zones, of which the township has none; an attorney for Geis objected and said the firm would go to court unless the change was tabled or rejected. (The Portager, Oct. 7, 2026)
Bitdeer presented the plan to township trustees at a meeting of roughly 3.5 hours; residents raised energy, water and noise concerns and no vote was taken. (News 5 Cleveland (WEWS), June 16, 2026)
Bitdeer and Geis disclosed plans for a phased campus on about 257 acres under contract in the Turnpike Commerce Center; trustees said a township moratorium runs until early November. (News 5 Cleveland (WEWS), May 27, 2026)
Conflicts and open questions
- Coordinates approximate: near the Ohio Turnpike / SR 44 area of Shalersville Township; no street address published.
- Acreage conflict: News 5 reported about 257 acres under contract; The Portager (Oct. 7) described just over 150 acres of Geis-owned land.
- Phase 1 = two data halls plus a 51,500 sq ft office; later phase = 12 more halls (about 48,000 sq ft each); 15 buildings in all, per News 5. Construction would take about five years.
- News 5 (June 2026) says Bitdeer already operates a 26-building, 31-acre facility in Massillon; that site is not in this record.
