Who is behind it
The record, newest first
The commission voted unanimously to table the rezoning and asked Greenbrier Land Company for traffic and utility details; a commissioner said this data center plan had not worked out but the site could be considered for other projects. (WVVA, Jan. 9, 2024; WOAY-TV, Jan. 9, 2024)
The county commission said it would hold off on the decision indefinitely until it had more information. (WOAY-TV, Jan. 3, 2024; DatacenterDynamics, Jan. 2024)
The Raleigh County Planning and Zoning Board voted 4-3 to recommend the rezoning for an eight-building campus with buildings at least 300 feet from homes and a main entrance between two schools. (WVVA, Dec. 22, 2023)
Conflicts and open questions
- Acreage is given as 727 acres and as 'more than 700 acres' in reporting.
- Planning action predates 2024, but the commission's tabling vote on Jan. 9, 2024 is within scope.
- Up to 600 jobs were projected (WVVA, DCD); no MW or investment figure was reported.
- WVVA reported the board vote as 4-3 but also said the board president broke a tie; the vote count is internally inconsistent in that report.
- DCD names the applicant Greenbrier Land Development Company; WVVA says Greenbrier Land Company.
