The record, newest first

  1. Cowboy State Daily reported Aethel Energy was nearing completion of a 1 MW data center near Lost Cabin and had floated a far larger gas-powered project with no firm plans; the company asked the county for a letter confirming no zoning applies. (Cowboy State Daily, Oct. 8, 2026)

  2. Cowboy State Daily reported DEQ proposed approving the engines and that the project did not appear to meet the Industrial Siting Act threshold. (Cowboy State Daily, Aug. 19, 2026)

  3. ETC DC OpCo LLC applied to DEQ for an air quality permit. (The Riverton Ranger, Sept. 2, 2026)

  4. The Fremont County planning director sent a letter saying no county rules prohibit the activity. (The Riverton Ranger, Sept. 2, 2026)

Conflicts and open questions

  • Coordinates are approximate, from the reported distance from Lysite.
  • Whether Aethel Energy's 1 MW site and ETC DC OpCo's '1 MW DC Site' are the same facility is not confirmed by any source opened; both are described near Lost Cabin. If they are the same, the status would be construction (nearly finished as of Oct. 2026). If Aethel's larger project files for permits it should become its own campus record.
  • The DEQ notice itself was not opened; permit facts come from the Riverton Ranger and Cowboy State Daily.

The full record

Status note
DEQ's Air Quality Division proposed approving an air permit for eight gas-fired emergency engines, with comments taken through Sept. 14, 2026; under 50 MW. In October the county planning director said a 1 MW data center near Lost Cabin was close to running (see notes).
Power note
Labeled the '1 MW DC Site' in the DEQ notice; DEQ did not say what the figure measures. Under 50 MW. A separate, much larger project (about 500 MW of on-site gas power, which Cowboy State Daily put at a potential $66 billion) has been floated nearby with no firm plans.
