Prometheus Hyperscale Falls Ranch Campus
A proposed 940-acre, 1.25 GW gas-powered data center campus from Prometheus Hyperscale on Falls Ranch southeast of Casper, still awaiting a county application. Also known as: Prometheus Casper campus.
Who is behind it
The record, newest first
WyoFile reported that no application was yet before the county, which was drafting possible conditions; commissioners said public forums would come later. (WyoFile, Oct. 21, 2026)
County planning staff told the Natrona County Planning and Zoning Commission they expected an application from Prometheus Hyperscale soon. (Natrona County Planning and Zoning Commission, Sept. 8, 2026)
Prometheus presented the project to Natrona County commissioners: about 640 acres of data halls and 300 acres of power generation, a new I-25 interchange with Hat Six Road as secondary access, and a request for industrial park zoning that would avoid state Industrial Siting Council review. No vote was taken. (Cowboy State Daily, Sept. 2, 2026; Oil City News (republished by WyoFile), Sept. 2, 2026; Your Wyoming Link, Sept. 2, 2026)
Company president Trevor Neilson put the investment at about $16 billion for each of the two Wyoming county sites and said Prometheus would propose that Natrona adopt conditions similar to Uinta's. (Cowboy State Daily, Aug. 25, 2026)
Converse County rescinded its April 21 resolution authorizing a fast-track industrial park after the attorney general's office said the county lacked authority for it; a commissioner said the park was not meant specifically for Prometheus, which had not applied there. (Cowboy State Daily, May 21, 2026)
Prometheus announced it had signed a deal for a ranch site near Casper straddling Natrona and Converse counties, with partners Spiritus and Casper Carbon Capture providing access to permitted carbon dioxide storage wells; county permitting had not started. (Cowboy State Daily, Oct. 9, 2025)
Conflicts and open questions
- Coordinates are approximate, placed south of I-25 west of Big Muddy Creek near the Natrona-Converse line from reported descriptions; the parcel was not mapped.
- Site change: the 2025 plan put the data halls in Converse County and the generators in Natrona County, north of I-25. Oil City News reported that, according to county officials, the site moved to other Falls Ranch land south of the interstate after neighbors raised noise, heat and traffic concerns, putting the whole campus in Natrona County.
- Capacity changed over time: about 1.5 GW potential (Oct. 2025) versus 1.25 GW (Sept.-Oct. 2026).
- Design changed over time: in Oct. 2025 the founder described fuel cells on an existing gas pipeline and cooling with non-potable groundwater returned underground; 2026 presentations describe gas engines and turbines and a closed water-glycol loop.
- Company economic claims (Sept. 2026): about 3,000 peak construction jobs, 150 permanent jobs, $100-150 million in one-time construction sales tax, and $80-115 million in recurring tax revenue (described as property tax by Cowboy State Daily and Oil City News, and as recurring sales tax by Your Wyoming Link).
- Possibly the same complex described in a WyoFile photo caption as proposed along Hat Six Road east of Casper; not separately confirmed.
