The Board of Aldermen unanimously passed data center zoning rules (Board Bill 49); the Armory project is not covered and is bound instead by similar conditions in its permit. (St. Louis Public Radio, Sept. 11, 2026)
Opponents, including the Eco-Socialist Green Party of Eastern Missouri, filed suit asking a court to reverse the Board of Adjustment's denial of their appeals and to stay the permit; they allege the decision was arbitrary and the process rushed. The city said it does not comment on pending litigation. (St. Louis Public Radio, Aug. 29, 2026; St. Louis Public Radio, Sept. 11, 2026)
The Board of Public Service voted unanimously for the conditional use permit, with conditions on cooling, renewable energy and community benefits. (The St. Louis American, April 21, 2026; The Labor Tribune, April 30, 2026)
A revised plan moved the 120 MW data center to the neighboring Macy's/Famous-Barr warehouse site and would turn the Armory into offices; a zoning hearing was set for March 19. (St. Louis Public Radio, Feb. 25, 2026)
STLPR reported documents showing a roughly $1.5 billion plan to put a data center in the Armory building and its parking lot at 500 Prospect Ave. (St. Louis Public Radio, Sept. 25, 2025)
