CloudBurst San Marcos Gigacenter
An AI campus to run on on-site gas generation, under construction outside city limits on the Hays-Guadalupe line after residents raised water and emissions concerns at a county workshop.
Who is behind it
The record, newest first
CloudBurst announced its groundbreaking; its first 50 MW phase is due in the fourth quarter of 2026. (W.Media, Nov. 19, 2025; DatacenterDynamics, Nov. 2025)
Hays County commissioners held a workshop on the roughly 96-acre project, where residents raised concerns about transparency, emissions and water scarcity. (Community Impact, May 21, 2025)
County appraisal and state business records placed CloudBurst's planned AI campus on Francis Harris Lane, near another separate data center proposal. (KXAN, Feb. 27, 2025)
Energy Transfer agreed to supply natural gas sufficient for roughly 1.2 GW of on-site power for CloudBurst's planned campus. (POWER Magazine, Feb. 10, 2025)
Conflicts and open questions
- The site straddles Hays and Guadalupe counties per the county's development services director; listed under Hays.
- The 1.2 GW figure describes on-site behind-the-meter gas generation the Energy Transfer supply could support (POWER, Feb. 2025); trade outlets also call it a 1.2 GW campus. Kept out of mw as generation.
- Site is outside the San Marcos and New Braunfels ETJs, so neither city reviewed zoning.
- Separate from Highlander SM One, which we already track.
