IREN Sweetwater 1
IREN energized a 1.4 GW high-voltage substation at its 1,700-acre Sweetwater 1 site in 2026 and is building the first 300 MW of AI data center capacity there for delivery in late 2027. Also known as: Sweetwater Hub.
Who is behind it
The record, newest first
IREN's site page lists Sweetwater 1 as under construction on 1,700 acres with 1,400 MW of power capacity, and Sweetwater 2 at 600 MW on 500 acres. (IREN, Oct. 29, 2026)
IREN said the 2 GW Sweetwater hub was conditionally included as base load in ERCOT's Batch Zero process and that 300 MW (gross) of data center capacity was under construction at Sweetwater 1 for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2027. (IREN (GlobeNewswire), Sept. 8, 2026)
Local TV reported about 300 construction workers on site and an NVIDIA partnership on the campus design. (KTXS, May 28, 2026)
IREN announced that Sweetwater 1's high-voltage substation was energized and connected to the ERCOT grid. (IREN, May 1, 2026)
IREN's annual report for the year ended June 30, 2025, said substation construction and site works had begun at Sweetwater 1, targeting grid connection in the second quarter of 2026. (IREN Ltd (SEC Form 10-K), Aug. 2025)
IREN announced a second 600 MW site about 28 miles away, forming a 2 GW Sweetwater hub with the 1.4 GW Sweetwater 1. (KTAB/KRBC (BigCountryHomepage.com), March 10, 2025)
Conflicts and open questions
- County comes from a KTXS report in which IREN COO David Shaw names Fisher County as the site; IREN's filings and releases say only West Texas, about 40 miles from Abilene. Coordinates are county-level.
- Sweetwater 2 (600 MW, 500 acres, IREN lists it as under construction with substation energization in 2027) is a separate site about 28 miles from Sweetwater 1; no source reviewed names its county, so it is not tracked as its own campus yet.
- The 1,400 MW figure is the site's power capacity as stated by IREN, not IT load.
