SB Energy Cosmos Technology Campus (former 3M campus)

Who is behind it
The record, newest first
KXAN reported Austin Energy's view that the site will not be a large-scale (75 MW+) data center and SB Energy's commitment to pay for power upgrades, with operations expected by spring 2027. (KXAN, Sept. 16, 2026; SB Energy (via KXAN), undated)
Four Points News reported the IPO filing's description of the site as a data center under construction. (Four Points News, Sept. 3, 2026)
SB Energy's S-1 listed Cosmos in Travis County at about 50 MW of critical IT, under construction and financed by $999 million of senior secured notes, with a SoftBank affiliate as tenant on a 15-year lease. (SB Energy, Inc. (SEC Form S-1), Aug. 31, 2026)
SE Cosmos LLC, an SB Energy subsidiary, bought the former 3M HighPoint 2222 campus at 6801 River Place Blvd. from Karlin Real Estate; local neighborhood leaders said at the time the site would be an R&D lab rather than a large data center. (Four Points News, April 30, 2026)
Conflicts and open questions
- Investment figure is the May 2026 note issuance used to finance the project, not a stated total capex.
- Spring 2026 local reporting framed the site as an R&D lab (Graphcore's U.S. engineering headquarters); the S-1 describes it as a data center with critical IT capacity. Both framings recorded neutrally.
- 1.1 million sq ft is existing office/lab space per SB Energy's one-sheet and KXAN; Four Points News reported 1.2 million.
