The record, newest first
Elon Musk posted a video of the Cortex training cluster under construction at Tesla's Austin headquarters; reporting placed it on the south side of the complex. (InsideEVs, Aug. 26, 2024; Tom's Hardware, Aug. 27, 2024)
On Tesla's second-quarter 2024 earnings call, Musk said Cortex would hold about 50,000 Nvidia H100 chips plus 20,000 units of Tesla's own hardware. (Tom's Hardware, Aug. 27, 2024)
Conflicts and open questions
- Power figures (about 130 MW at launch, 500 MW later) appear in reporting without attribution to Tesla and trace to social media posts, so no MW figure is recorded.
- Without a credited power or acreage figure, the project's fit with the 50 MW scope floor is unconfirmed.
- Later expansion phases described in enthusiast blogs were not confirmed against a record and are not recorded here.
- The cluster sits inside an existing factory complex rather than on a stand-alone campus.
