Digital Realty Uptown Charlotte campus
Digital Realty runs a cluster of colocation buildings in Uptown Charlotte and is adding a 12 MW building where the 1920s Court Arcade stood. Also known as: Digital Uptown.
Who is behind it
The record, newest first
The Court Arcade facade came down. (WSOC-TV, Aug. 31, 2026; WBTV, Sept. 7, 2026)
WSOC reported that Digital Realty owns and operates four data centers in Uptown. (WSOC-TV, Aug. 14, 2026; Digital Realty, Nov. 2, 2026; Digital Realty, Nov. 2, 2026; Data Center Map, undated)
A permit application to demolish the Court Arcade facade was submitted, according to county records cited by WBTV; the company said it could not find a workable way to keep the facade. (WBTV, July 15, 2026)
A city committee presentation listed Digital Uptown as a 165,000-square-foot, 12 MW colocation project, allowed by right, in permitting and exempt from the moratorium. (City of Charlotte, June 1, 2026)
Charlotte Stories reported plans to clear the Court Arcade Building at 725 E. Trade St. for a four-story data center extending the company's Myers Street footprint. (Charlotte Stories, Oct. 8, 2025)
DatacenterDynamics reported Digital Realty had paid about $16 million for 712 E. 5th St. and 725 E. Trade St., beside an existing data center, to allow a 12 MW expansion. (DatacenterDynamics, April 2025)
Conflicts and open questions
- Digital Realty's site lists one Charlotte facility, CLT10 at 113 North Myers Street (29,000 square feet on three floors). The other buildings come from directories: Data Center Map shows CLT11 at 125 North Myers and CLT12 at 731 East Trade. The four-building count is WSOC's.
- The city presentation says Digital Uptown without naming Digital Realty; it is matched here by name and by the 12 MW figure DatacenterDynamics attributes to the company.
- Expansion size conflicts: 165,000 square feet and 12 MW (city), four stories (WBTV, Charlotte Stories), three stories and 29,000 square feet (WBTV, Sept. 2026, which may be confusing the plan with CLT10). No square footage is shown.
- The Oct. 26, 2026 moratorium extension does not clearly state whether exempt projects stay exempt; WBTV describes its language as similar to the first.
- A directory places Digital Realty's CLT11 at 125 North Myers Street, while TierPoint lists its own site at that address; the two are not reconciled here.
