The county manager confirmed the moratorium covers only unincorporated areas; the company plans to retrofit the warehouses, on the model of its Madison plant. (WFDD (via WUNC), Aug. 24, 2026)
WUNC reported the sale was expected to close in the fall, with first capacity around summer 2027; the company's own announcement says a fourth-quarter 2026 closing and first capacity in the third quarter of 2027, both conditional. (WFDD / WUNC, Aug. 19, 2026; WhiteFiber, Inc. (Form 8-K exhibit 99.1, SEC), Aug. 17, 2026)
The town manager said the land is already zoned industrial, so a data center faces no zoning hurdle, and that the town would respond once it knew more. (The Yadkin Ripple, Aug. 18, 2026)
WhiteFiber, through Enovum, announced a $60 million deal for two Unifi properties with about 120 acres and 500,000 square feet of warehouse space; the same day, commissioners passed a two-year pause for unincorporated land after more than 20 speakers, most of them opposed. (WhiteFiber, Inc. (Form 8-K exhibit 99.1, SEC), Aug. 17, 2026; The Yadkin Ripple, Aug. 18, 2026; WFDD (via WUNC), Aug. 24, 2026)
Conflicts and open questions
- The company numbers the two properties NC-2 and NC-3; kept as one record because they were announced as a single project.
- Sister to whitefiber-nc1-madison, about 55 miles away.
- Exact parcels are not confirmed in the sources opened, and no report that the purchase has closed was found. The company's announcement names Yadkin County; the Yadkinville location and the Unifi seller come from local reporting.
