The record, newest first

  1. Councilors voted unanimously not to pursue the land sale to the developer. (OPB, May 28, 2026)

  2. A crowded council meeting drew nearly three hours of public comment, most of it opposed. (KTVZ, May 13, 2026; The Source Weekly, May 19, 2026)

  3. La Pine's city council unanimously told staff to start a purchase and sale process for the land; the direction was non-binding and approved neither a sale nor the project. (DatacenterDynamics, undated; The Source Weekly, May 19, 2026)

Conflicts and open questions

  • Acreage is 19.5 in OPB and 20 in The Source.
  • OPB says the park is owned jointly by private parties and Deschutes County; DCD calls the land county-owned; The Source says the $1.5 million price would be split between the city and the county.
  • Job figures ran from up to 200 down to 50 or 60. OPB reported that a city staff report found gaps of millions of dollars between the developer's revenue estimates and the city's own.
  • The map point is approximate, from the town.

The full record

Status note
The council's vote ended the land sale effort; this was a land sale decision, not a land use denial.
Power note
Under the 50 MW floor as proposed. DCD reported a possible later expansion to 100 MW; the developer said it was uncertain Midstate Electric could serve that load.
